About the Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Executions

Philip Alston has served as Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions since he was appointed on 13 July 2004 by the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. In this role, he routinely communicates with Governments regarding allegations of extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, undertakes fact-finding country visits, and submits reports to the Commission and to the General Assembly.

About the Project on Extrajudicial Executions

The Project on Extrajudicial Executions was established to conduct research into international legal regimes protecting the right to life and to support the work of the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions in carrying out his mandate. The Project is directed by William Abresch.
