Lebanon Visits & Communications
From 7 to 14 September 2009 the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions, Philip Alston, conducted a joint mission to Israel and Lebanon with the Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, Paul Hunt; the Representative of the Secretary-General on human rights of internally displaced persons, Walter Kälin; and the Special Rapporteur on adequate housing as a component of the right to an adequate standard of living, Miloon Kothari. They visited Lebanon from 7 to 10 September and Israel from 10 to 14 September 2006 at the invitation of the two Governments and in accordance with their respective mandates.
They reported to the General Assembly in October 2006. The report focused on how the conduct of the hostilities by Israel and Hezbollah affected the rights to life, health and housing of the civilian population in Lebanon and Israel, as well as the rights of persons internally displaced by the armed conflict. The report also examined the major challenges to the enjoyment of these rights in the aftermath of the conflict and is available below. The accompanying press release is available here.
On 3 October 2006 Lebanon filed a response to the report, available below.
